There are two types of a tummy tuck, a mini and a full. In the mini, you just require the small overhang below the tummy button to be removed and the tummy button stays where it is. A small crescent of skin is removed to tighten the lower tummy skin and removes the so-called “muffin top”! This does not need a stay in hospital and can even be done under a spinal injection so you don’t have to be asleep for it. Please see photos below

The full tummy tuck is where there is excess skin above and below the tummy button and requires the tummy wall to be moved down and the tummy button to be placed in a new position. This is a much bigger operation and also requires the main tummy muscles (Rectus abdominus) to be stitched together to give a more shapely abdomen. The scar is longer and is usually hip to hip. Drains are needed and usually a 2-night stay in hospital and a recovery time of at least 2 weeks with no tummy exercises before 10 weeks. Many of the hospitals in which I work have operation packages in place and allow for a 2-night stay in the package cost. The package means that you don’t have to worry about any other cost from the time of your admission to discharge.
At the bottom of this page is an example of a lady undergoing a breast reduction and tummy tuck at the same time. There are very good financial deals available for multiple procedures.

Please contact my secretary or the hospital of your choice for a discussion about a tummy tuck and they will be very happy to let you know about all your care.
